This is a “how to build video”, based on my experience.
There are no plans as such, but the video should be easy to follow and adapt.
I used 11 Aerated Blocks from Wickes hardware store.
I also used 100mm thick Kingspan Thermal insulation board and some scrap Corex, and some black duck tape.
It is based on a ZEST hive, but designed to take 10 frames (12x14 national)
It’s a fun project and I hope to finish construction for under £30
It’s called a YEST hive, because it’s a Yorkshire variation, “looking after the pennies. ;-)
From 11 aerated bricks from the hardware store for the zest hive.
Cut the blocks in half and marked the halfway point.
Assembled the base using solid blocks and chopped pieces.
Added the sides and back using the same method.
Adjusted the width to fit the frame.
Used wood glue to secure a wooden strip on top for easy frame placement.
Completed the lid with insulation and duct tape.
The hive is now ready for bees.
