Jamyang Dorjee Chakrishar is a world-renowned Tibetan calligrapher known for pioneering a style he calls "Dharma Art". His work uniquely combines traditional Tibetan script with Buddhist imagery and philosophy, with many pieces depicting deities using miniature script.
Key achievements:
World record for longest calligraphy scroll: In 2010, Jamyang Dorjee completed a 163-meter-long scroll containing 65,000 Tibetan characters. The text consists of long-life prayers for His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, gathered from 33 great Tibetan masters. The scroll was written on handmade lokta paper from Nepal.
Decades of public service: Before dedicating himself to calligraphy, Dorjee had a long career in public service. He served as a senior official for the Government of Sikkim and later worked for the Tibetan Government-in-Exile in Dharamshala at the request of the Dalai Lama. He also served as a regional coordinator for the Conservancy for Tibetan Arts and Culture (CTAC).
International exhibitions: His artwork has been exhibited internationally and is held in private collections worldwide.
Cultural preservation: Through his art and service, Dorjee has worked to champion and preserve Tibetan language and culture. He has used his skills to inspire younger generations to reconnect with their heritage and is viewed as a torchbearer of Tibetan tradition.

Background
Early life: Jamyang Dorjee Chakrishar was born in Lhasa, Tibet, in 1954. After the Chinese takeover in 1959, he and his family fled to Sikkim, India.
Education: He attended the Central School for Tibetans in Shimla before going to college in Delhi.
Residence: He currently resides in Gangtok, Sikkim, India.
