A stirring old hymn composed in the early nineteenth century by the Irish radical preacher Thomas Kelly, a smart young man who trained in Law and was destined for a distinguished career in the Bar, but who experienced a dramatic spiritual conversion and instead entered the ministry, becoming a non-conformist and troublesome preacher who made enemies, but who nevertheless lived to the remarkable old age of 86.
