Chinandega (from Nahuatl : Chinantlan 'Place surrounded by reeds' ) is a municipality and a city of the Republic of Nicaragua , head of the department of Chinandega , in the western Pacific region of this Central American country, the region of greatest economic strength after the capital of Managua .
