Ontario’s snap winter campaign has kicked off with the major party leaders trying to define the race. Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford, trying to win his third majority government, was in Windsor against the backdrop of the Ambassador Bridge, railing against U.S. President Donald Trump’s threatened 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods. New Democratic Leader Marit Stiles was in Toronto’s Regent Park to emphasize how “unaffordable” life has become since the Tories took office in 2018. Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie was in Barrie with local candidate, Dr. Rose Zacharias, the former president of the Ontario Medical Association, to put a spotlight on the fact that 2.5 million people in the province don’t have a family doctor. At Queen’s Park, Green Leader Mike Schreiner said “the Ford government has abandoned Ontarians” and has lost touch with the priorities of families.
