Harte Research Institute’s Dr. Paul Montagna joined us in October to share information about freshwater inflows along the Texas coast. Estuaries are defined by mixing of river and sea water, thus freshwater inflow is a key driver of estuary ecosystem structure and function. While there is much concern about water quality, there is much less about water quantity. As water is diverted for human use, less is flowing to the coast, which threatens estuary ecosystems. Dr. Montagna will present on these important aspects, pulling from his book, Freshwater Inflows to Texas Bays and Estuaries. He will cover the history of inflow studies, how he got started on the topic, and why this specific book project was undertaken. Don’t miss out on this great talk from one of the leaders in the field of hydroecology.
