The Ningbo Tianyi Pavilion Museum (also known as the Tianyi Ge Museum) is one of China’s oldest private libraries and a significant historical and cultural landmark. Located in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, the museum is home to the Tianyi Pavilion, which was originally built in 1561 during the Ming Dynasty by Fan Qin, a retired imperial official.
The pavilion served as a private library to preserve rare books, ancient manuscripts, and other scholarly materials. Over time, it became renowned for its rich collection of historical documents, calligraphy, and paintings. The museum features traditional Chinese garden architecture, including pavilions, ponds, rockeries, and ancient trees, creating a tranquil setting that reflects classical Chinese aesthetics.
The Tianyi Pavilion Museum not only showcases its valuable book collection but also hosts exhibitions on the history of Chinese printing, bookbinding, and literature. It is a treasure trove for those interested in Chinese history, culture, and the art of libraries.
