Free Dispersed Camping on Canaan Loop Road, Monongahela NF, WV

Canaan Loop Road is a free boondocking and primitive camping location in West Virginia. In this video, we visit the dispersed campsites along Canaan Loop Road within the Canaan Mountain Backcountry, Monongahela National Forest. There are no less than seven (7) dispersed campsites along Canaan Loop Road, Forest Road Road 13, and all offer up to free 14 day camping in this unique slice of West Virginia. From WV Route 32, the first several campsites are nothing more than a narrow short strip along the forest road with no fire ring. Continuing on, I found four good dispersed campsites with a fire ring, all east of the Pointy Knob Trailhead. The campsites offer a meadow-pine matrix with an alpine feel. This is a popular backpacking and mountain bike area. There are precious few turnaround areas in the form of trailhead parking. As such, Canaan Loop Road is not big rig friendly. Both Verizon and AT&T cellular service was spotty and barely usable for streaming and app connectivity. Water fill and dump station are available for a fee at nearby Blackwater Falls State Park.
