Many Langara students did not make it to class on time today, delayed by a train track breakdown on the Canada Line.
A call to TransLink confirmed that the issue began around 6 a.m. when the train tracks between Oakridge-41st Avenue Station and Marine Drive Station experienced a fault.
TransLink issued an online advisory and deployed shuttle trains and replacement buses to reduce the impact of the delays.
The Canada Line transports more than 130,000 passengers on a weekday basis, according to a 2024 TransLink Service Performance Review, making any service disruption a significant blow to Metro Vancouver commuters.
Wednesday’s breakdown comes as TransLink faces a $17.2 million increase in maintenance costs for 2025, a 16.8 per cent jump from 2024, driven primarily by inflation on parts and the increased cost to maintain an aging fleet
