India’s ISS Moment: ISRO Starts Bharatiya Antariksh Station Project | N18V

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has officially begun work on the Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS), marking a historic leap in India’s space exploration ambitions. Envisioned as India’s counterpart to the International Space Station (ISS), the Bharatiya Antariksh Station will be a permanent space station in low Earth orbit, designed to support scientific research, technology demonstrations, and long-duration human space missions. The station is expected to play a critical role in advancing India’s capabilities in human spaceflight, microgravity research, and next-generation space technologies, while enabling Indian astronauts to maintain a sustained presence in orbit. The BAS project builds on ISRO’s experience from missions such as Gaganyaan and signals India’s emergence as a major spacefaring nation with end-to-end human spaceflight infrastructure.
