A Winter Storm Warning goes into effect across the state on Saturday as a major winter storm tracks into the Ohio Valley for the weekend. Road preparations across central Ohio are limited today due to dangerously cold temperatures, which make salt less effective.
The City of Columbus is urging drivers to remain patient as crews work to clear more than 4,600 miles of city roads.
City and county road crews are repeating the same message: stay off the roads if you can. Officials remind drivers they can check current road conditions through the city’s online roadway status map before heading out.
Despite roadways being clear Friday with no snow expected overnight, city, county, and state crews will begin working around the clock Saturday afternoon, with pretreating and truck preparation already underway.
The Ohio Department of Transportation tells ABC 6 its plow trucks have been hit more than 30 times this season. Drivers are urged to give plows plenty of room, avoid passing them, and refrain from parking on the street, which can slow snow removal and leave roads snow-covered longer.
