조선정원의 아름다움의 으뜸, 창덕궁 후원 Secret Garden of Changdeokgung Palace=후다닥여행70

궁궐의 뒷동산을 왕의 걸음으로 걷는 창덕궁 후원.
창덕궁은 아름답고 넓은 후원 때문에 다른 궁궐보다 왕들의 사랑을 많이 받았다. 자연 지현을 그대로 살리면서 골짜기마다 정원을 만들었는데, 부용지, 애련지, 관람지, 존덕지 같은 연못을 만들고 옥류천 주변에는 소요정, 청의정, 태극정 등 아담한 규모의 정자들을 세워 자연을 더 아름답게 완선하였다. 연경당은 안채와 사랑채를 따로 둔 사다부 집처럼 지었으며, 궁궐의 전각이면서도 단청을 입히지 않은 소박한 모습으로 후원의 정취를 더한다. 후원은 왕과 왕실 가족의 휴식을 위한 공간이었지만, 왕이 주관하는 여러 가지 야외 행사가 열리는 장소 이기도 했다. 조선 초기에는 왕이 참석하는 군사 훈련이 자주 실시되었고, 활쏘기 행사도 열렸으며, 대비를 모시는 잔치나 종친 또는 신하를 위로하는 잔치도 베풀어졌다. 또한 왕은 후원에 곡식을 심고 길러 농사의 어려움을 체험하였고 왕비는 친히 누에를 쳐서 양잠을 장려하기도 하였다. 후원은 창덕궁 전체의 60%를 차지할 정도로 넓고, 가끔 호랑이가 나타나기도 했을 정도로 깊다. 게다가 절경들은 골짜기마다 숨어 한꺼번에 드러나지 않으므로, 직접 걸어서 골짜기의 연못과 정자들을 찾아 다녀야만 후원의 진정한 아름다움을 느낄 수 있다. 촬영장소로도 유명하며 최근에는 넷플릭스 드라마 '킹덤', TV 드라마 '옷소매 붉은 끝동' 등이 이곳에서 촬영되었다.
Palace Garden Where Kings and Queens Strolled.
The Changdeokgung Palace was loved more than any other palace by the kings of Joseon Dynasty(1392-1910) because of the spacious and beautiful garden in the back. Preserving the original topography, garden areas were planted in each valley and a series of lotus ponds were built. Small pavilions were also built along the stream that flows through the rear garden. Through this, the natural quality of this Secret Garden has been enhanced. Although Yeongyeongdang Hall was built in the royal plalace, its architectural structure and non-coloring style are closed to those of gentry level. These unadorned buildings add to the special atmosphere of the rear garden.
The Secret Garden was intended as a place of kings and royal family members to relax, but it was also a venue for various outdoor activities. The early Joseon kings would join in military exercises here and archery contests were held, along with banquets for the queen dowager, prominent relatives of the king and high-ranking ministers. The king sometimes tried his own hand at planting and raising grains here, and queens would engage in sericulture. The Secret Garden takes up almost 60% of the entire area of the Changdeokgung Palace, and in the old days even tigers would occasionally appear. The beautiful sights are hidden in a series of valley, so the entire layout cannot be seen at once. One must walk down into each of these valley to the pond and its pavilions in order to truly appreciated the beauty of the palace. Here is also quite well known as a shooting place for movies and TV dramas.
