John’s purpose in John 9:1-41 was to record the sign Jesus performed in Jerusalem after the Feast of Booths, when He healed the man who was blind from birth and the aftermath where the Jews interrogated the man and his family as to the legitimacy of the healing and the One who healed Him. In vs.8-41, John’s purpose is to record the response to the sign, and in these verses we see that when Jesus saves He chooses the helpless, does the miraculous, and calls them to faith and public confession.

Three Observations from Jesus’ Healing of the Blind Man

Observation #1: Jesus chooses to come to the helpless and humbled to save them. (vs.1-7, 39)

Observation #2: Jesus does the miraculous and gives spiritual sight those who are in darkness. (vs.39)

Observation #3: Jesus calls a person to faith and public confession of Him. (vs.35-38)
