Yesterday felt like I'd gone back in time to the good old days, you don't exactly see a Class 37 everyday nowadays. Even rarer to see more than one of them in a single day! Yesterday we had no less than 6 Class 37s through our neck of the woods. All clips were filmed at Bescot Stadium. This weekend is also the Class 37 65th Anniversary bash at the Severn Valley Railway, so some of these moves were in preparation for the weekends event.
The first move we see, and the only one here not to do with the Severn Valleys 65th anniversary gala was 5Q35 Barrow Hill L.I.P - Long Marston which saw 37407 'Blackpool Tower' taking ex London North Western Railway's 350257 and 350264 for what I presume is storage. 37407 still carries its large logo livery with pride, and with EPR logos on the cabsides. I must admit though, quit surprising to see these units going for storage, I was under the impression they were to be cascaded elsewhere, unless not all LNWR 350s are going elsewhere. Or they'll be stored before doing so? Not sure.
Next, we see 5Z37 Carnforth Steamtown - Kidderminster SVR with WCRC's 37518 'Fort William / An Gearasdan' with 6 Mk1s in tow. Both the loco and stock are to be used during the Severn Valley's 65 years of Class 37 gala over the weekend. Nothing really exciting noise wise for both of these moves, not helped that they were both following units.
The third and final move was more interesting noise wise though, 0Z08 Northallerton Wensleydale Railway - Kidderminster SVR had a convoy of 4 Class 37s with 37508, 37668, 37264 and 37250 all heading to the big 65th anniversary event. 37264 and 37688 had been collected from the NYMR. This move should have run under the headcode 0Z27, but a DSD fault with 37508 would mean it would run 2 hours late so it was re pathed for later. This meant it would be the evening by the time it reached us at Bescot. But the driver opening up 37508 did make up for the lack of noise with the other two moves earlier!
Today, 37901 and 37423 were heading to the Severn Valley and were supposed to come via this route. But for whatever reason, that move was cancelled and re routed. Won't be going for either that or 37501, but I shall be attending the big 65th anniversary gala on Friday. So I'll be able to see most of the locos attending at least anyway.
