On July 5th, 1983, Roger Stone hosted a gathering at his home in Alexandria, Virginia. to celebrate president Calvin Coolidge's birthday. A tribute to the 1920s president. At admired by conservatives and libertarians for his commitments to limited government fiscal discipline and tax cuts. Ideas that resonated strongly during the Reagan era. Captured in this photograph taken for Washington Dossier are Stone then 30 years old, his wife, Nydia Stone and the infamous lawyer Roy Cohn who had 56 was one of the most powerful and controversial figures in American politics. Cohn notorious for his role as Senator Joseph McCarthy's chief counsel during the red scare was a master of aggressive unapologetic tactics and a mentor to both Stone and Donald Trump. The party drew prominent figures, including Richard Viguerie, 49, a pioneer, conservative, direct mail fundraising expert. Ken Tomlinson, 38, head of the voice of America. Victor Camber, 40, a liberal political consultant known for his sharp critiques of conservatives and journalists, Jack German. 55 a respected veteran of Washington political reporting among many others.
Stone's political career heavily shaped by Cohn's principles of never apologizing. Attacking relentlessly and controlling the narrative was gaining momentum as he worked behind the scenes on Reagan's reelection campaign.
Cohn a towering figure who taught his protege is the value of loyalty and media manipulation would see his career and in disgrace, when he was disbarred in 1986 for unethical conduct. He died later that year of aids related complications. Stone, meanwhile, would endure his own share of controversy, including in 1996 swinger scandal that forced his resignation from Bob Dole's presidential campaign and his 2019 conviction for obstruction of justice during the Mueller investigation, though, he was ultimately pardoned by Trump in 2020. This event set against the backdrop of Reagan's transformative presidency was more than just a tribute to Coolidge. It captured a political moment in American politics.
