Adam Oates is a former professional ice hockey player and coach from Canada. Born on August 27, 1962, in Weston, Ontario, he played 19 seasons in the NHL for teams like the Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, Boston Bruins, Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, and Edmonton Oilers. Known for his exceptional playmaking skills, Oates retired with 1,079 assists, the fifth-highest total in NHL history. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012.
After playing, Oates transitioned to coaching, serving as an assistant coach for the Tampa Bay Lightning and New Jersey Devils and later as the head coach for the Washington Capitals. In 2017, he was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in history.
