Hellloooo everyone! First and foremost, if you are prepping for your SAT, keep pushing! I know it can be tough to stay motivated, so I am here to help. Today, I’m walking you through the 3 SAT Math Hacks you must know before you take your SAT Exam. I share these hacks with all of the students that I tutor right at the beginning of our sessions.

Hack #1: Plug in your answer choices
I know you’ve heard this a thousand times before, and I get that it seems so easy. But most people underestimate the power of this trick. I’d even argue if you’re already hitting the high 600’s and low 700’s this is what can really boost your score to that next level. Remember, no one is grading your solution. We only care if you get the right answer, FAST. So, don’t let the test fool you into convoluted algebraic solutions. Know when to plug in and don’t delay. I always tell my students, if you don’t “see” the algebraic trick that is being tested or all your answers are numbers, PLUG IN.

Hack #2: Choose Smart Numbers
This is vital. So, take a second and really internalize this. Choosing smart numbers to plug in when you have unspecified values is like drawing the curtain at the start of the show. As soon as you choose a number, the problem unravels. So, if you have variables in your solutions, or are working with fractions, decimals, or % with no total- CHOOSE A NUMBER and power through.

Hack #3: Underline your question
This needs to be reflex. As soon as you read a problem, you should either circle or underline the question. I don’t need you to memorize the question, but I do need you to always pause once you’ve done your math and get your eyes to catch what you circled at the very start of the problem. Don’t make the silly mistake of having the right answer and answering the WRONG question. When I see this happen to my students, it KILLS me.

Practice these “hacks” and I GUARANTEE you will see a jump in your score and time saved on your real exam.
