Hi, my name is Wendy Xie. I am a guqin instructor currently located in Manitoba. I hold the Excellent Guqin Music Teacher Qualification Certificate issued by the Central Conservatory of Music of China and provide both in-person and virtual lessons. — ABOUT Guqin —

With a history of more than 3,000 years, the guqin (Chinese seven-string zither) is one of the earliest Chinese plucked string instruments. Confucius, the most famous teacher and philosopher of ancient China, also included the guqin as part of his education of music, which was one of the Six Arts he advocated for. In 1977, the Voyager Golden Record, an album of sounds representing life on Earth, was launched into space. It included Flowing Streams, a piece of guqin music played by the famous musician Guan Pinghu. This piece was chosen to represent ancient Chinese civilization and to convey a message of friendship to outer space. On November 7, 2003, the guqin was listed among the UNESCO "Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity." The art of the guqin was thus formally recognized as a shared cultural treasure of humanity.
