Meet the (Wartime clothing) Maker Becky Davies Downes of William & Tilda

WW2 was a pivotal time in history for when, as our maker’s website says, ‘ordinary women did extraordinary things’ at the same time as having to make do and mend.

Becky Davies-Downes is now helping keep those extraordinary stories alive through her handcrafted business ‘William and Tilda’. Becky specialises in recreating fashion from the era, she researches and explores each garment and stitches those stories into every garment.

In this Meet The Maker episode Becky tells us how she started her sewing business ‘William and Tilda’, and how this fascinating period of history and her craft come together and how she is now using Zoom to teach sewing classes.

Often Makers in business often struggle to focus on one niche wanting to please and serve everyone, I really love that Becky hasn't done that. Instead Becky has found a way to use her love of an era and her sewing skills to really create a business she loves and is proud of.
