This next session of screwing around was not only the most enlightening, but showed me how much time I wasted chasing something that just wasn't going to happen. Obviously, the transformer AKA the most difficult part to rework was the main problem. I probably said pullup instead of pulldown or vice versa more than once so just ignore that and look at the drawing instead lol.
I would say I kind of automatically sized parts I had for more power than I really needed so maybe the next one of these I make will largely focus on the size of the transformer relative to how high of an oscillator frequency I can comfortably bring the switching. Maybe some tiny toroid won't be so difficult to wind with roughly the same turns or fewer at 3x the frequency. Some 75-100V SMD switches and boom it seems easy enough to get it down to the size of a 10W continuous unit that can push 15V-24V for gate drives at maybe 1/4 the size or less.
If I can get those peaks clamped down to around the 55-60V region from my 24V input then I'll probably just go ahead and throw this thing in my QCW logic supply and try to make another smaller one.
