Selfishness is the fruit of a proud mind that looks down on others as inferior. By humbly choosing to treat other people as valuable and their desires as significant, the Philippians would manifest the kind of attitude that promotes unity.
Our sinful human nature pushes us toward selfishness. Only by consciously seeking to live out Christ’s love through our lives will we be able to make headway against our bent to self-centeredness. Herein, the call to love one another is central (Bible Expositor and Illuminator, Union Gospel Press, Summer Quarter 2025).
