जमीयत उलेमा ए हिन्द के प्रमुख मौलाना महमूद मदनी के जिहाद को लेकर दिए गए बयान ने तूल पकड़ लिया है. इस पर बिहार के राज्यपाल आरिफ मोहम्मद खान ने आपत्ति जताई. उन्होंने कहा कि जिहाद गलत शब्द नहीं है, बल्कि किसी गरीब,पीडित या सताए जा रहे व्यक्ति का समर्थन करना ही वास्तविक जिहाद है. लेकिन देवबंद में जिहाद की क्या परिभाषा पढ़ाई जा रही है ये मदनी बताएं क्योंकि देवबंद की किताब में जिहाद की परिभाषा कुछ और ही है और वो है दीन ए हक की तरफ बुलाना और नहीं आने पर और उसके खिलाफ जंग करना.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chief Maulana Mahmood Madani's statement on jihad has sparked controversy. Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan objected to it. He said that jihad is not a wrong word, but rather, supporting the poor, the oppressed, or the persecuted is the true form of jihad. However, Madani should explain the definition of jihad being taught in Deoband, as the Deoband text defines jihad differently: calling towards the true religion and, if one does not, waging war against it.
