Hello friends. The Catasauqua and Fogelsville railroad played such a huge part in the American industrial revolution. Providing iron ore from both Berks and Lehigh counties, the C&F transported this ore to the furnaces in Catasauqua as well as Alburtis PA. The ore was mined in small villages such as Breinigsville, Haffsville, Seisholtzville, and Rittenhouse Gap. The ore was turned into “pig iron”, a raw form of production iron, that would later be turned into finished goods.
Like many other railroads of the area, the C&F would fall under the Reading umbrella, being leased in 1893 and eventually being fully owned in the 1950s. Hope you enjoy this little video and thank you for watching. 6/29/25
