Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre criticized Prime Minister Mark Carney for potentially doubling the deficit “without even introducing a budget,” as the two leaders faced off for the first time in Canada’s Parliament on Monday.
“In the spirit of non-partisanship, we’re simply going to hold the prime minister to his own promises,” he said, attacking him for government spending and for the delay in releasing a budget.
Carney touted what he said was “the largest tax cut in Canadian history” as he defended his government’s record so far when it comes to improving affordability for Canadians.
“We are building the strongest economy throughout the worst crisis in our history,” he said.
