Use a kitchen scale to more accurately recharge you cars AC. Recharging an automotive AC using an autopart store hose with gauge kit is not the best way to get your air conditioning cold again. Identify what type of refrigerant your car uses by opening the hood and locating the A/C sticker with information refrigerant type and capacity. Don't Buy anything with stop leak in it! Most kits only provide a low pressure gauge and won't give you very accurate information about how well charged your ac system is. You really should buy a high pressure side gauge to ensure you aren't overcharging and experiencing damaging high pressures in the air conditioning system. In this video we charge the A/C on a 2003 Ford F150 with a capacity of 33 oz. Since my truck at 20 years old was completely empty I bought 3 12oz cans to recharge the air-conditioning system. After installing Two full cans I brought out the kitchen scale and weighed the third and final can several times as I installed the refrigerant into the truck, aiming for adding 9 oz of refrigerant into the truck. I don't know if my truck has a fast leak or a slow one but the air conditioning has been super cold for a week at the time of editing this video. If it does prove to have a terrible fast leak it would not be responsible to keep charging it at home and leaking the refrigerant into the environment. it depends on the refrigerant but they are all a compromise in environmental damage and consumer safety. Some refrigerants deplete the ozone, others are very powerful greenhouse gasses, while some are extremely flammable. Anyway you look at it an unaddressed refrigerant leak is something want to have repaired.
