Controforma girevole per violino

Questa è la controforma che utilizzo per la lavorazione delle tavole di violino, dalla sgrossatura delle bombature fino allo scavo dell'interno per la finitura degli spessori, nonchè per alcuni lavori successivi alla chiusura della cassa.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION of the written notes in the video, in order of appearance :

0:00 - Swivel cradle for violin

0:24 - Make the cradle using a piece of mahogany or other hardwood, 40cm lenght x 25mm width x 3cm thickness, digging the central part to accommodate the arching and shaping the outline appropriately

1:21 - Use oak or other wood very hard and stiff to make the support piece of the cradle

1:33 - Glue cork on the surfaces in contact with the cardle and with the vice of the workbench to ease locking

2:02 - Put 3 screws to reinforce the strength of the joint between the glued parts

3:02 - Use beech plywood and hard plastic (Formica) to make 4 adjustable stops, protecting with cork the surface of contact with the edge of the table

3:15 - Glue coarse sandpaper on the underside surface in contact with the cradle, to favor the blocking and prevent slipping

3:39 - Cork

3:50 - Use an M12 bolt made of brass for the central pivot

4:09 - Smooth and round off well the edges of the upper part of the hexagonal head

4:19 - Fit it in the cradle so that it is not protruding from the supporting surface, to avoid direct contact with the wood of plates

5:07 - Insert four pieces of cork shaped to accommodate the protrusion of the corners, not to damage them when working the inside of the plates

5:31 - Insert two swiveling stops when working the inside of the plates, to keep them from slipping out accidentally

6:00 - Use soft wood (poplar plywood) rounding carefully inside edges to avoid damaging the gluing surface of plates
