Li-ion Batteries Are Now Better Than LiPos for FPV with Tabless Cells

Welcome to another one of my in-depth, FPV deep dives. This time we’re looking at something that could genuinely change the way we power our quads & planes going forward — Tabless Cells are flipping the script on Li-ion Battery performance. How many of you have heard that Li-ions are no good for flying hard or fast? That is now no longer the case with tabless cells, with these cells, you can rip as hard as you want, just like a LiPo, with cells sporting current ratings upwards of 70A constant with burst ratings of over 140A, compared to the typical 45A ratings of Molicel cells.

For years, LiPos have been the undisputed king for current delivery and punch. But with the arrival of cells like the BAK 45D, EVE 50PL and Reliance RS50, the game is changing fast. Now, it makes little sense to buy big heavy expensive lipos that don't actually provide any advantage over Li-ions anymore. Li-ion packs are cheaper, lighter, have more capacity and provide the same current capabilities as lipos.

Now of course these cells are not a complete silver bullet - they won't suit all sectors of FPV. For quads below 5inch, they become unideal due to their weight. They're of course not even remotely applicable to tiny whoops, but they can be ideal for freestyle as I explain in the video. My main point with this video is, if you are willing to put in the time to building your own 18650/21700 Li-ion packs, you can save money on Lipos, and get 3-4x the flight time, the same performance and have a better flying quad (due to the weight saving vs equivalent larger lipos) if you fly a 5inch+ quad for Cinematic FPV.
