THAT Artist Feature: Kei Imazu

Kei Imazu is a Japanese painter residing in Bandung, Indonesia. Kei utilizes everyday contemporary internet environments in collecting all sorts of artworks and objects that exist in and beyond the form of an image.

In November 2023, we had the opportunity to visit ROH Projects in Jakarta, coinciding perfectly with the opening of Kei's solo exhibition, "unearth." Captivated by the remarkable show and the narrative woven into the body of work, we felt that we had to document it. In this video, Kei discusses the Indonesian myth of Hainuwele, its connection to her personal journey of motherhood, and its intersection with the long colonial history of oil exploitation in Indonesia.
