Not Every Intuitive Abstract Painting Works Out—And That’s Okay!

In this video, I’m sharing two expressive abstract painting demos created in just 15 minutes each using a limited acrylic palette and intuitive painting techniques. These are warm-up style pieces—quick, experimental, and honest. Not every abstract painting works out, and that’s okay. Some of the most valuable insights come from the pieces that feel awkward, unresolved, or just plain weird.

Along the way, I also briefly test out a new tool—the Winsons marker airbrush—to add light texture using a recycled potato bag as a stencil. If you’re curious about how alcohol markers interact with acrylic paint, I walk through what happens when you use them both over and under acrylic layers. It’s a fun, ghost-like effect that shows up especially well in the second piece.

Whether you’re new to abstract art or a seasoned intuitive painter, this video is about showing up to paint, even when the results feel off. You’ll see the full process of both paintings, hear how I evaluate work I’m unsure about, and get a few takeaways on how “failed” paintings can still move us forward creatively.

At the end, I also show close-ups of both finished pieces, plus an extra painting that didn’t work out—but still taught me something. Because that’s what painting is—it’s practice, play, discovery, and growth.
