How to do Ground Work With your Horse

Here are 7 basic ground training exercises to get any horse started with ground work. These exercises are part of your horses foundation. So that being said, these exercises can be simple or advanced. For example, at a beginner level you are just looking for 3 good steps of sideways on the rail. Advanced would be sideways at a trot or canter without a rail on the 45' rope. Pretty cool, right! So you are never really done using these, but as you and your horse progress, you'll shoot for a higher level of excellence and refinement!

Note: My horse, Dandy, (who I used for the video) is a level 3/4 horse. So he make this stuff look easy. Most likely this will be really hard with your horse, if you are just starting this. So remember the to use the 4 phases (ask (very lightly), tell, promise, and touch) and don't be afraid to use them. Once your horse learns the pattern of the 4 phases, he will start to respond to a lighter phase/aid.
