Inspired by the work of my friend Andrew Greene, founder/director of the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra, I decided to arrange my composition for small orchestra. Orchestras of this size were known as "11 & piano", the standard instrumentation used in popular theatres throughout the ragtime era. These efficient little groups typically had two players for the melody parts, and one for each of the rest. This is the same instrumentation used for the "Red Backed Book," or "Standard High Class Rags," a John Stark containing orchestrations of rags by Joplin, James Scott, and others. Hope you enjoy!
