OFF-SEASON SESSION 11: Jan 6, 2020
Today’s session was focused purely on keeping a tight set position prior to a shot. We had recognized that Akira was getting his feet and hands too wide in a set position, meaning that he couldn’t get the drive from his legs without a counter movement, or the extension with both hands to and through the ball.
Here we have 10 simple activities increasing in complexity of movement, aiming to minimize/eliminate unnecessary movements from the head, hands, body, and legs when travelling and getting into a set position. Keeping everything in tight, with good balance and posture, enables the keeper to track the ball more efficiently, extend energy to and through the ball, and use the legs to drive the body into the save.
Thanks for watching, and please share, comment, and use these drills however you see fit. If you make adjustments, feel free to share, and please follow us on social media @ACGKLLC on Instagram and Twitter, or Adrian Clewlow Goalkeeping on Facebook.
See you next time!
