Senji (Gingee). It is approximately 160 kilometers from Chennai. To get to the fort from Chennai, travel National Highway 45 (NH45) to Tindivanam, where there is a road turning to the right that connects to NH66. The route up to Tindivanam is spectacular, but it is completely different after that. The Gingee fort is about 25 kilometers from Tindivanam, on either side of the road leading to Tiruvannamalai.
The fort should be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you arrive after 3 p.m., you are not permitted to ascend the hills to the the top. It is best to avoid the climb if it is raining because the rocks and steps can become slippery.
