In Episode 7 of my Alps camping trip on the BMW R1150RT, I leave the beautiful campsite of Maloja and head into Italy via the twisting B3 hairpins into the Bergell Valley. But the day throws me a surprise—my navigation tablet crashes to the ground after a bad bump. With a cracked screen, I continue to Lake Leggio for a short stop, then ride through Lugano and up the legendary Gotthard Pass. I share some of its rich history and the reason I skip the tunnel entirely. From there, I descend into Andermatt and begin the final climb of the day: the mighty Furka Pass. At the summit, surrounded by snow and silence, the episode comes to a close.
