The 2025 Ford Ranger is Australia’s best-selling vehicle for a reason. With its powerful 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel pumping out 184kW and 600Nm, backed by a 10-speed automatic and serious off-road pedigree, the Ranger has earned its reputation as the king of Aussie utes. This Chinese-built plug-in hybrid ute lands with a seriously compelling price of $57,900 plus on-road costs, undercutting the Ranger Sport we're testing here by a significant margin - $13,000! Under the skin, it’s packing a complex but punchy PHEV system – a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine backed up by dual electric motors (front: 170kW/310Nm, rear: 150kW/340Nm), delivering serious all-wheel-drive performance for a combined 321kW/650Nm. Together with its 29kWh battery, the Shark can cover around 80km on pure electric power and when the battery’s topped up, it boasts a claimed fuel consumption of just 2.0L/100km.
