What kind of title is "Fire Down Below"? Isn't this a Dark Teagle? Should it be something like "Earth-Shattering Darkness" due to it's Impact arte and the fact that it's a Dark Teagle? Whatever.
Just to let you know, I don't hate the idea of boss battles in which reinforcements show up. I also don't hate the idea of boss battles where they start off by default with reinforcement. I truly believe that both Dark Teagle and Exophasma could have been excellent boss battles. Why do I have such a problem with Dark Teagle and Exophasma?
They're not done properly.
Dark Teagle already can't flinch with ease, meaning some characters will have a difficult time dealing with the overwhelming amount of enemies even if you use a full team. Exophasma would have been fine if didn't absorb damage but instead only took minimum damage.
Instead of Dark Teagle and the minions doing all of the summoning, it should have been his little sidekick at the start of the battle. Dark Teagle could have had two sidekicks, but at least the minion-summoning problem wouldn't have been so much of an issue. On top of that, do something about the hard-to-hit, hard-to-juggle minions.
As for Exophasma, it would be a battle in which you have to defeat any Exophasma that was created from Freedom Gaze until the main Exophasma dies from Freedom Gaze or brings it health down to one (which means you can kill it with anything). It would be an endurance battle.
The character balance is absolute crap in this game. Without a party that contains Ludger, most of these battles become tiresome. This trait carries over into Zestiria where Alisha's lack of Armitization means she is the only character who truly needs Life Bottles to revive and some characters are clearly not as good as other characters overall (Lailah with all of her fire-based attacks or Water Armitization being better than Wind Armitization).
