On the morning of Thursday 29th August 2024 NIR 201 Class Loco 208 & Enterprise De Dietrich Set 9002 made a unusual appearance on the Larne / Londonderry Line while operating a test train from York Road to Templepatrick Loop & Return.
208 + 9002 Are seen powering through Whiteabbey on route to Templepatrick.
Then we see the set on the return run at Mossley West.
It's not everyday you see a DD running on a single line as well as the Londonderry line.
9002 Has been out of traffic for a few months for maintenance reasons and a test run was required before the set returns to passenger service.
Due to the Portadown line closure it resulted in this rare sight of a Enterprise DD set as well as a 201 on the Londonderry line.
The DDs have ran on the line on a handful of occasions over the years.
In 2001 a DD set became the first passenger train to run over the Bleach Green to Antrim section of the line when it operated a press trip just prior to the line being opened.
The furthest a DD has ran on the Londonderry line is Ballymena
