I made a tutorial for absolute beginners a while ago which you find here:
• Maya: Intro for Newcomers
It covers things like setting keyframes and the use of the Attribute Editor.
THIS tutorial is much more basic. We launch Maya and discuss why it takes a while and when it's ready. We navigate the 3D scene with the ALT-key and the three mouse buttons. That's all. For an absolute beginner, this is the first step. A crucial step.
