David Collins Studio worked with London-based sculptor Lucy Smith to create the Entrance Hall wall relief at The Bryanston Show Apartment.
Walls are painted in a soft matt ‘cameo pink’ and feature applied decorative mouldings, created by Lucy Smith. Hand-sculpted and cast in pale pink Jesmonite, the mouldings take the form of a field of irises, a motif selected for the flower’s regal and benevolent associations (wisdom, hope, trust and valour) and create a connection with Hyde Park, where they can be found.
Lucy Smith has created her own immersive world of flora and fauna along the expansive ten metre hallway. The hyper-real nature of the sculpts is subverted by their pink colour – giving the apartment’s entrance an otherworldly feel. London’s native wildlife also features, including squirrels, butterflies, birds and a hare (associated with hope and fertility). The installation was inspired by the imagined connection between John Nash’s Marble Arch and Wedgewood’s Jasparware, from which the pale pink colour and finish was developed.
