This video provides an overview of how I replaced the Windshield Washer Reservoir, Pump and Sensor on my 2019 RAM 1500 Limited truck.
The symptoms of an ailing washer fluid dispensing system appeared all of a sudden, with no warning. One minute I was able to clear my windshield on my 2029 RAM 1500 Limited with the press of a button, and then the flow of fluid just stopped.
I investigated the usual suspects - no leaks in the tubing under the hood, no clogs in the downstream nozzles, no clogs in the upstream piping all the way through the pump to the reservoir, and their was plenty of fresh fluid in the reservoir. I could hear the pump running when depressing the in-cab button, but only a tiny dribble was dispensed.
Thus, I set about replacing the pump. And, while I was at it, I decided to get a whole new reservoir with a new pump and new level sensor already attached. I waited a few days for the new parts to arrive and then the fun began.
Getting access to the troublesome pump and reservoir assembly was quite a chore, not for the impatient or faint of heart.
Items needing removal or disassembly in order to ultimately remove the two bolts holding the reservoir assembly included: radiator cover, grill top trim, front wheel fender flares, front wheel well covers, front body trim panels, entire grill and headlight assembly, and the air inflow management (AIM) system. Dozens of bolts, screws, and trim fasteners were removed. All this, plus disconnecting the front camera and unplugging the lights/signals. All this effort just to access and replace a $60 part!
This DIY experience was a bit more than I originally anticipated. Overall, it took about 3-ish hours of time to do the job in my driveway, avoiding the very expensive trip to the dealership, and learning a bit along the way. Fred’s back on the road, with a much-cleared view!
