Once dubbed the “Stream of Sorrow,” Kondaveeti Vagu posed a serious flood threat to Amaravati and its surrounding farmland. Heavy monsoon-induced flows would inundate over 13,000 acres, jeopardizing both local livelihoods and the emerging capital’s infrastructure.

In a proactive move, CM N. Chandrababu Naidu launched the Kondaveeti Vagu Lift Pumping Scheme, building a sophisticated pump house at Undavalli that lifts floodwater directly into the Krishna River via 16 high-capacity motors. This Rs 237 crore project effectively channeled 5,000+ cusecs of water to avert flooding.
