An interpretation of Gigue in G minor by François Dufaut, performed on a Baroque lute by Antoine Pansera.
François Dufaut or Dufault, also spelled Fault or Faulx, born before 1604 in Bourges and died around 1672, was a French lutenist and composer. He trained as a lutenist with Denis Gaultier, of whom he was a pupil around 1630. Dufaut apparently traveled a lot: he can still be found in England in 1669. Not a lot of information remains of his life , but during his lifetime he enjoyed an excellent reputation as an instrumentalist, which is demonstrated in numerous contemporary sources where he was described as one of the greatest lutenists of his time.
He left us 165 works, including this short Gigue in G minor. Dufaut’s Gigue blends lively rhythm with poetic subtlety. Its flowing texture and refined phrasing embody the grace of the French Baroque lute tradition.
I'm a Baroque lute, Renaissance lute, Classical guitar, and other plucked-string instruments aficionado!
My repertoire focuses mainly on Early music, but also includes Romantic and Avant-Garde works.
