I booked my hike with Tropicana Tours, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Everything was so well organized, and the team was amazing from start to finish. This was the most intense and hardest hike of my life, but I’m SO glad I did it. I definitely checked this off my bucket list and 100% recommend everyone experience this at least once in their lifetime.
Schedule:
We met at Tropicana Hostel at 6:45 AM.
By 7:00 AM, we started breakfast, and at 7:30 AM we picked up our rentals.
They have everything available for rent, including jackets, boots, hats, gloves, backpacks, trekking poles, and headlights, which made things super convenient.
Helpful tip:
You can leave your extra luggage at the hostel overnight, so you don’t have to pay extra for another hotel, such a lifesaver!
By 8:00 AM, the shuttle took us to the entrance of Acatenango. After a short briefing on what was ahead, we officially started the hike.
Be ready and don’t get discouraged!
The first 15–20 minutes are NO JOKE!!! It’s so intense that you might already be thinking about giving up but don’t!
Stick with it, keep going, and trust yourself. You can do it.

We took short breaks about every 20 minutes for 5–10 minutes, which really helped.
I had been dreaming about this hike for such a long time, and I’m so grateful I finally got to experience it. I witnessed the most incredible sunset and sunrise of my life, with an unforgettable show from Volcán de Fuego. It was absolutely breathtaking.
