Hakuoho (Ochiai) May 2023, 14-1, All Bouts

Could this be the next legendary Yokozuna? Hakuho himself clearly thinks so....Makuuchi will be a real test, but so far he's passed all the others with flying colors. I for one quite liked the shikona Ochiai, and am certainly glad Miyagino was stopped from having him inherit Hakuho itself, but if this kid can keep up the pace he's at, then deserve it he might...perhaps when that top rank is reached?

This basho he presented less (but only a little less) of the past lightning quick matches that left opponents totally outdone, and more of a calm patience to seal his 14 victories. I for one found his skill at the rope to be especially impressive, against Bushozan, Hidenoumi and Gonoyama- even if it ended in a loss he hung on for several seconds there. In fact, it seems that Gonoyama is the only thing that can bring him down at this point, and luckily we should be seeing them butt heads again in the next few days! Hakuoho will be starting at M17 this time....but will he be able to contest the cup? I can only hope so...cheers!
