Before we opened the Aber Jazz Festival officially on the Thursday afternoon (Fishguard in Wales) we were asked to provide a morning talk about the history of jug band music.
To arrive at where jug band music has its place in history we take in ragtime, folk, marching music and blues etc before talking about early jazz which becomes swing and then bebop.
We demonstrate various instruments (kazoo, resonator guitar, washboard, bones, spoons etc).
So the venue is the bar / art gallery / gig venue known as ‘Peppers’ and we started at 10.30am.
With a loose script we talk about the history and demonstrate with genuine vintage instruments.
We were also asked to provide this in both Welsh and English language.
Although we start bilingually we end up sticking to English.
