A former riot squad policeman, Jimmy “Barbecue” Chérizier’s real background is hardly heroic. Sanctioned by both the United States and the United Nations for human rights abuses, he has been linked to a 2018 massacre, when he was still in the police, in which at least 71 people were killed and more than 400 homes were torched. He has long denied any involvement.
