Celebrating the Centenary of Human EEG Discovery by Hans Berger. Professor Claudio Babiloni gives three lectures on Hans Berger’s legacy: alpha rhythms of human resting-state EEG activity. The first lecture is focused on Hans Berger's discovery of resting-state EEG rhythms in humans in 1924 (the findings were published in 1929) and its confirmation a few years later by Sir Edgard Adrian (1934) and Herbert Jasper (1935). Afterward, the lecture explains the spatial-frequency features of resting-state EEG alpha rhythms in healthy humans, the underlying neurophysiological mechanisms, and their relation to cortical arousal and vigilance/consciousness levels.
