Follow along our journey with the National Park Service restoring Log Meadow in California's Giant Forest, Sequoia National Park!
This project is revitalizing a once-dewatered meadow that had been deeply eroded by historic cattle grazing. By filling in gully channels and slowing the flow of water, the team is helping the meadow regain its natural sheet-flow hydrology, bringing back the saturated soils and lush wetland plants that support a thriving ecosystem.
This restoration benefits wildlife across the forest, from insects and birds to deer and bears, all of which rely on these saturated, productive meadow habitats. Through a unique, low-tech approach that blends hay, soil, and biodegradable structures, we're creating a more resilient landscape that will continue to restore itself for generations to come.
