There are few places more dramatic to park up a bike than the Calf of Man. Here, with the rugged cliffs and Irish Sea as a backdrop, this striking Ducati steals the scene.
Originally I thought it was a 900SS Mike Hailwood Replica, built between 1979 and 1985 to honour Mike Hailwood’s legendary 1978 TT win with its bevel-drive 900cc L-twin, Conti pipes and bold racing livery. But a sharp-eyed commenter pointed out the belt-drive engine and frame don’t match the old bevel bikes. Fair spot 👌 — and after digging, I reckon this could well be a TT1 replica.
The Ducati TT1 was a successful 750cc racer that evolved from the TT2, carrying on the Pantah belt-drive design. It was a purebred competition bike, and today replica frames, fairings and complete builds are still sought after by enthusiasts for classic and post-classic racing. Seeing something like this parked up on the Isle of Man is a real treat — it’s not my usual bag, so I was curious what it might be, but whatever it is… what a bike.
👉 What do you think? TT1 replica, Montjuich, or something else entirely? Would love to hear your thoughts in the comments. And while you’re at it — have you ridden down to the Calf of Man before? What bike would you take?
