Some times when a baby is struggling to get milk from the breast or mom is struggling with low supply, all milk or formula can be supplemented at the breast. It streamlines feedings and reduces the use of bottles. Three ways to use a feeding tube (or SNS) with a nipple shield. A supplemental nursing system, or SNS, is a tube you use at the breast to provide milk to baby instead of via a bottle. If you’re on a triple feeding plan because of low milk supply or an inefficient baby, an SNS can be a great way to streamline feedings and keep baby associating that milk comes from the breast. Here’s what that looks like. This can also be done with a nipple shield. If you are considering using an SNS, work with a board certified lactation consultant to help you get back on track. *i accidentally call one a Latch Assist, that’s something else. I meant the Lact-aid.
